Free activities in Melbourne

Melbourne is a city where you can spend the day walking around and be totally occupied in the architecture.

These are my favorite places to immerse my senses on a budget.

Docklands

Specifically Harbour Town. or The District.

There are outlet shops, eateries and even a ferris wheel!

Sectioned off from the rest of Docklands, The District gives you a break from the hustle of the city. It’s a nice place to catch a breath and center yourself.

Queen Victoria Market

A pure joy to wander through the many stalls and there are night markets from November to March.

National Gallery of Victoria

You can easily lose yourself for an hour or two in the art gallery and there is a grassy courtyard to relax in if you’re not quite ready to re enter the city.

If you’re a fan of music, you’ll love

The Australian Music Vault

Dedicated to Australian music: the exhibitions include famous outfits, song books and instruments donated by our favourite artists.

There is a cinema room showcasing footage from Sunbury Music Festival, Countdown and more.

I can’t tell you how much the Australian Music Vault inspired me.

I felt so invigorated, I created my own Australian music playlists.

I will continue to build on these, but I would love for you to check them out.

It seems fitting to have an Australian soundtrack to my trip around Australia.
