Full circle

Being back in Tassie is fine, but I feel I’ve come full circle.

Tasmania leaves a lot to be desired and I feel this wistful desire to visit Cairns wash over me.

I moved to Cairns from Tasmania originally – 8 years ago.

I lived there for about 18 months, but was back and forth to Tas a lot and never really got the opportunity to integrate, for a medley of reasons.

While I was living there, I purchased an apartment. So I am very lucky in the regard I always have an anchor there but may feel somewhat like I shouldn’t be revisiting the past..

In terms of climate, Cairns was always a bit more wet and humid than Townsville – which was refreshing when visiting from the Ville but in reality you are dealing with soiled clothes and skin.

In the glamour and warmth of Northern Australia, I tend to forget the reality… They are just country towns with better weather. They are Tasmania in a sauna.

There are still local issues, socio-economic issues etc. But there are also beautiful lush areas you can live amongst the wilderness and still be so close to the beach. The connection to Pachamama is very strong the further north you go – I noticed the lacking in Townsville.

So. One of my queries to self, is would I be able to make friends there?
If you want to, you will.

You just need to remember that it’s a country town and you can’t run away up there and live in a bubble. Everything has polarity.

But now I’m older, I just want to live a comfortable life and spend majority of my time in nature.

Maybe I will spend summers in Tasmania and autumn and winter traipsing between Rocky and Daintree. That’s the dream right?
