My toxic trait is I consume media and simply have to express my opinion on it. But usually I don’t think anyone cares so I let it bubble up inside me haha.
Fuck, I just finished watching One Day the series.
I started it in February 24, got halfway through but wasn’t really interested.
I am a diehard fan of the book and will do pretty much anything to consume the story. I may as well be a background character.
I adore the movie and fucking love Jim Sturgess.
I can appreciate the actors and that it would be a nice story if you’re not familiar with the original, but the cast is all wrong!!! Gah it drives me mad.
I know producers are very careful to be politically correct & diverse, but Jim Sturgess was the perfect Dexter Mayhew.
Leo Woodall is gorgeous and I do love watching him on screen, but he is so angelic and baby faced. I just can’t hate him.and he doesn’t really age convincingly throughout the film.
Even Sylvie was wrong!!! I swear she’s meant to be blonde/fair complexioned and lithe.
In my head, Gwenyth Paltrow in The Royal Tenenbaums era is Sylvie.
AND unless I got the dates wrong THEY LEFT OUT THE ‘I love you Dexter, I just don’t like you anymore’ line!!! critical!!!
While you would think the series would go more in depth into the story, I felt the story was washed out and didn’t pack much of a punch.
Maybe I am heartsick with the nostalgia of my favorite book-cum-film of my teens, but I wasn’t drawn in like I am with the film. I found myself skipping through bits of the show just to get it over with and didn’t feel like I was missing out on much.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Am I being dramatic?
The final scene in book, movie and show is the most perfect final scene of anything I’ve ever seen or consumed.
The flashback OH MY GOD.
But the tv show still managed to ruin it by interweaving present day and flashback.
